The Department of Electronics and Communication (J.K. Institute of Applied Physics and Technology) is located in the Muir College Campus (Science Faculty) of the
University of Allahabad. The Department is one of the oldest and a pioneer institution in the field of Electronics and Communication as well as in Computer Science and conducting significant research and teaching for the past 60 years.
History
Its foundation stone was laid by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of India, on January 14, 1949 and it was formally inaugurated by him on April 4, 1956. J.K. Charitable Trust contributed for the construction of the complete building structure of the institute, hence the department's name is commonly known as J.K.Institue. The Department has a long history of collaborating with some of the country's top research institutes such as DRDO, ISRO, CATC, NIELIT etc.
The undergraduate course in Computer Science was started in the year 1982 and the post graduate course in Computer Science was started in the year 1986. The Defence Research and Development organization (DRDO) had selected the institute as a center of Manpower development in the area of Computer Science through which the students were inducted as Scientist B in their organizations up to 1992. After 1992, M.Sc. Computer Science program has been taken over as UGC program.

The Department conducts courses in the fields of Electronics & Communication and Computer Science. These courses have been designed to meet the current challenging demands of the nation.
The Department offers following courses:
B.Tech. Electronics & Communication Engineering
B.Tech. Computer Science & Engineering with major in Artificial Intelligence (This course has flexibility of multi-level entry/exit options. The students may opt for M.Tech. course after successful completion of four years.The admission to B. Tech. 1st year is only on the basis of JEE mains (through JOSSA/CSAB Counseling).

Admission
The Department admits undergraduate (B. Tech.) students through Joint Entrance Examination Mains (JEE mains).
Admission in B.Sc., Post Graduate courses and D.Phil. is done by Institute/University on the basis of admission test/merit of qualifying degree.
