Facilities

All the academic activities of IIITK are conducted in the permanent campus at Valavoor. So students need to be joining and reporting at this permanent campus only.

Hostel: Hostel Facility is available for Boys and Girls students. Students run the cooperative mess based on their menu in hostels. The mess is compulsory for all students. The girl students will be accommodated in the hostel within the campus. All the boy students of the first year will be accommodated in different rented hostels outside the campus (within 03 to 08 KMs) and the Institute will provide conveyance (to and fro) free of cost. All boy students will be accommodated inside the campus hostels / rented hostels within walkable distance from the second year onwards. This is a policy decision, and binding on all students opting the Institute. Hostels are supported with generator facility upto 11 PM. All students will be accommodated inside the campus hostels itself from the second year onwards.

Medical Facility: The Medical Centre at our institute places a strong emphasis on the wellness of students and staff, providing tailored services to meet their specific needs. The services include regular consultations for common ailments and comprehensive diagnostic services including laboratory tests (in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, Thiruvananthapuram). We have highly qualified medical professionals including doctors, nurses and laboratory technicians. Our team provides empathetic and patient-centered approach to all students and staff members, ensuring a supportive and comforting environment. The general facilities include a consultation room, procedure room, a comfortable waiting area, separate male and female ward, isolation room and a sample collection centre. The medical centre is also equipped with advanced diagnostic and support facilities like ECG machine, Autoclave, UV Sterilizer, Steamer, Infrared massager, Glucometer, Otoscope, Oxygen concentrator, Nebulizer, Pulse Oximeter, etc.  The medical centre also offers 24/7 emergency services. The Medical Centre at our institute has established strong partnerships with nearby hospitals like Mar Sleeva Medicity Pala and Marian Medical Centre Pala to enhance the quality of healthcare services and ensure comprehensive care for our community. Initiatives like health camps, awareness programs and blood donation camps are conducted regularly with the support of these hospitals. The institute has also employed a full-time counselling psychologist to support the mental and emotional well-being of students, staff, and the broader community.

State of the art Labs/Infrastructures: IIIT Kottayam continues constructing buildings and establishing research labs based on the requirement of faculty/industries. Constructing several research labs such as IoT Cloud research lab, Computer Networking lab, 3D printing design lab, Cyber Lab, Gyaan Lab, FACTS-H Lab, Intelligent Integrated Circuits and Systems (I2CS) Lab, DADB Lab and so forth are in progress at IIIT Kottayam for improving the practical knowledge of students.  Selective students could visit leading industries (including AIM-Aayog, Intel, CDAC, NIWE) and international Universities such as University of Innsbruck, Austria, University of Klagenfurt Austria, Technical University Munich Germany, University of New Brunswick Canada, and so forth where our faculties are collaborated with research ideas.

LibraryIIIT Kottayam has a comprehensive collection of Engineering & Science textbooks, literature, reports, and management books at its Library.  In addition, students can access eBook collections from IEEE, Wiley, and Cambridge University Press. The library is fully automated with the Koha Integrated Library Management System and is supported by the Knimbus digital library platform, allowing in-house and Remote Access to its resources.  The institute subscribes to IEEE IEL, Cambridge University Press, Wiley eBook Collection, MATLAB access and plagiarism software Turnitin. Furthermore, it holds institutional memberships to eShodhSindhu and is part of the Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) of MoE, GoI, and DELNET. The library has an extensive collection of print and electronic resources spanning various fields of study in engineering sciences. The Central Library at IIIT Kottayam offers a wide range of academic resources, including general and reference books and a diverse selection of fiction and non-fiction.

Student Life at Institute

All our efforts are only focusing on students to get a vibrant and creative life at par with other Institutions of National Importance within the constraints of the ongoing construction activities of the second phase of infrastructure development.

Life at IIIT Kottayam: IIIT Kottayam ensures a 100 percent anti-ragging campus. The newcomers of this institute are well-treated without inequity and gender bias. We have an active mentoring system and each student will get faculty mentors. Faculty mentors always keep in touch with parents also. We always try our level best to ensure a FEEL-AT-HOME environment during their stay at IIIT Kottayam (right from their initial stay at the campus). A high-speed internet connection with bandwidth of 6 Gbps with WiFi access through NKN network and the digital library connections / IEEE subscriptions keep motivating the IIIT Kottayam students for developing innovative solutions during their stay.

Skill Development: One of the main attractions of IIITK is we are having several forums for students to develop their skills and talents In addition to the aid offered by our teachers, our very own committed technical club, Beta Labs, offers them crucial student-level assistance. Last year our IIITK family expanded by more than 400 students, and our technological activities also advanced significantly. We have IEEE student branch, ACM student chapter, Sports club, Cultural club ( WildBeats), Dance and Music Club, Drama Club, Finance club, Literary club, Coding Club, Cyber Security Club, and so forth have enabled most of the students to impart their leadership skills at IIIT Kottayam.

Location Benefits: IIIT Kottayam is located in the central part of Kerala, phrased as God’s Own Country. Kerala is a state with 100 percent literacy. Those who are visiting here understand that we maintained Nature's natural slope even in the construction activities.  It is a business hub for trading spices and is an industrial sector for rubber industries, including MRF, Apollo, etc. IIIT Kottayam is located in an ideal place where students could reach Trivandrum, Kochi, or Bangalore for establishing business and research developments. Please visit www.iiitkottayam.ac.in for further information.

Financial Assistance

Training & Placement

The students of IIIT Kottayam are exposed to real-world problems to make them ready for Internships/placements from the first semester itself.

Entrepreneurial Ecosystem:_ The curriculum of IIIT Kottayam is designed in order to impart an entrepreneurial ecosystem in the campus. For instance, AIC-IIITKottayam, an incubation centre of IIIT Kottayam, is a vital resource to IIIT Kottayam students; AIC-IIITKottayam is a 10000 sq. feet incubation unit supported by AIM-NITI Aayog of India to the tune of Rs. 3.77 crores. The MSME incubation centre is also sanctioned to the Institute. IIIT Kottayam, thus, helps students to continue championing in their career and attain goals with an entrepreneurial support. It provides tens of thousands of opportunities for them to interact with industrial experts, including MSMEs to MNCs.

Placements / Internships: IIIT Kottayam has a sound internship and placement programme. Leading industries keep lining up for conducting interviews and placement/internship drives to our students. In fact, the students of IIIT Kottayam could easily attract industries for pursuing internships during their summer/winter vacations (4 months per year). Most often, these internships do lead to their future placement offers. In the previous years, our students have attracted stipends during internships ranging from Rs.15000 to Rs.50000/- per month from leading industries, including Bosch, TCS, NIWE, US Technologies, IBM, VOLVO, HARMAN, and so forth. Top companies like Amazon and Google offer ₹1.25 lakhs in internship stipends. The institute even facilitates internships abroad, with past opportunities at JP Morgan Chase Glasgow and Volvo Sweden. The placement cell is responsible for campus Internships at IIIT Kottayam. The placement cell establishes and maintains relationships with various industries and organizations, cultivating partnerships and collaborations to understand their hiring needs, trends, and requirements.

The placement cell establishes and maintains a strong network of alumni who can contribute to the betterment of the process. The role of a placement cell is crucial in bridging the gap between academia and industry, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the professional world. We are well-equipped with all the necessary facilities for the Internship process. Looking at placements, this year saw a record-breaking 161 total offers with the highest domestic package reaching ₹45 lakhs per annum and an average of ₹12 lakhs per annum. The international scene was impressive too, with the highest offer reaching ₹23 lakhs per annum and a third-year student even receiving a pre-placement offer (PPO) of a remarkable ₹50 lakhs per annum.

IIIT Kottayam has positioned itself as a leading institution in India by fostering a robust culture of innovation and establishing strong industry connections. The institute has secured numerous industrial projects funded by multinational companies such as TCS, IBM, Infosys, Hewlett Packard, NeST, UniSys etc. and research projects funded by government agencies such as DST, MeitY, SERB, MSME, and other international funding bodies.  This extensive collaboration includes partnerships with major IT companies and organizations, ensuring that the research conducted is both cutting-edge and relevant to industry needs. Furthermore, IIIT Kottayam supports innovation through its incubation centers, such as the MSME Incubation Centre, AIC Incubation Centre (NITI Aayog) and innovation centre - Gyaan Innovation Lab, which have secured several start-up funding proposals and have successfully incubated multiple start-up companies.

To cultivate a strong programming and technical culture, the institute has established various student chapters and coding clubs, including GeeksForGeeks, CodeChef, Coding Ninjas, and Google Developer Student Club. These clubs regularly organize events, webinars, and competitions to enhance students' coding skills and prepare them for global competitions. Additionally, IIIT Kottayam's curriculum is designed to emphasize programming languages, data structures, and computer algorithms in the initial semesters, providing students with a competitive edge.

The institute also encourages students to engage in projects that address real-world problems, often in collaboration with industry partners. This hands-on approach helps students develop a research-oriented problem-solving attitude. IIIT Kottayam hosts several research groups in areas such as Data Science, Big Data & Machine Learning, Cyber Security, IoT, and more. These groups comprise faculty members, students, alumni, industry experts, and international collaborators, enhancing the institute's research output and global presence. Through these initiatives, IIIT Kottayam ensures that its students are well-equipped with the knowledge and experience needed to excel in the IT industry and beyond.

The curriculum consists of courses that are jointly offered by industry experts and faculty of IIIT Kottayam. Our alumni network strengthens the existing bondage between our ongoing students and industries. Alumni are committed to assist our students for placements, internships, and organizing knowledge-transfer programmes. Several events are often jointly organized with our prestigious alumni to promote the word-of-mouth marketing synergies of the Institute. In addition, they are serving as mentors to potential startups of our incubation centers which remain as entrepreneurial promotion activities.

Recreational/Extra Curricular activities

IIIT Kottayam offers several forums for students to organize and develop their skill sets. Extracurricular activities like sports, fests, and other club activities are an integral part of student life at IIIT Kottayam. Clubs such as Wild Beats, Trendles, Sports Club, Drama Club, Music Club, Dance Club, Photography Club, Eco Club, and so forth play an inevitable role in the overall development of our students and helps develop their leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. The celebration of different festivals and cultural events provides opportunities for students to learn about different cultures and traditions and have a broader understanding of the world outside the classrooms.

The technical club of IIIT Kottayam focuses on providing the platform for sharing the information among peers enabling the students widening the horizon of knowledge whilst sharpen their skills. Students are updated with contemporary research and technology by group discussions, semInars, and other coding activities throughout the week.

Trendles is a vibrant social club at IIIT Kottayam that serves as a hub for students to explore and express their diverse interests and talents. This club encompasses a wide range of sub-clubs, each catering to different passions and skills.

Our students (Boys and Girls) have diligently engaged in several editions of Intra sports meet (PRADHVA). Further, they have actively participated and secured various prizes at the Inter-IIIT sports meet representing several games (Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Carroms, Power Lifting and Athletics) in 2018, 2019, 2023 and 2024, respectively. A full-fledged gymnasium (Binary Body), Open Gymnasium (Svasthya) and the service of a full-time Physical Education Instructor are available in the Institute with enough space for indoor and outdoor practice.
