About the Institute

 (An Institute of National Importance Fully Funded by Govt of India)

 

Pandit Dwarka Prasad Mishra Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Jabalpur (PDPM IIITDM Jabalpur) was established by the Ministry of Education (erstwhile Ministry of Human Resource Development), Government of India in January 2005 with an aim to promote excellence in the field of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing. It was envisaged that the new Institute would serve as an inter-disciplinary institution for education and research by keeping the concept of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) in mind. The Institute is being developed and nurtured under the India-Japan partnership as a unique Institute of its kind with a focus on IT enabled Design and Manufacturing. 

The charter of PDPM IIITDM Jabalpur is enunciated as:

i) To emerge amongst the foremost institutions in Information Technology (IT) enabled Design and Manufacturing and allied fields of knowledge;

ii) To advance new knowledge and innovation in IT enabled Design and Manufacturing allied fields to empower the nation to the forefront from the global perspective;

iii) To develop competent and capable youth imbued with the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship with the social and environmental orientation to meet the knowledge needs of the country and provide global leadership in IT enabled Design and Manufacturing and allied fields.

The Vision and mission of the Institute are

i) Vision

PDPM Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing (IIITDM), Jabalpur shall emerge as a Global Knowledge Hub for quality research and teaching under the broad area of IT enabled Design and Manufacturing through cross-disciplinary, innovative, futuristic and dynamic approaches.

ii) Mission

To create an environment of high-quality education and research which:

  a. Provides maximal opportunities for intellectual and creative development.

  b. Provides exposure to solve real life problems through interdisciplinary approaches.

  c. Encourage students to learn through inquiry with special emphasis on hands on experience , “learning through doing”.

  d. Eventually to create a future generation for the building of the Nation.

To meet the Vision of the Institute, key features of the institute are:

·   Admission: The Institute admits meritorious students through National Eligibility tests such as JEE, UCEED, GATE, CEED, NET, etc.

·   Faculty: The faculty of the Institute is well-qualified (holds Ph.D. degree from premier Institutions) with proven academic and research record.

·   Curriculum: The Institute curriculum is designed to inculcate multi-disciplinary learning with focus on developing innovativeness and research among the students.

·   Research: The Institute promotes research in pure and applied research areas for the benefit of the society. Faculty undertake research projects sponsored by various funding agencies such as: DST, DRDO, ISRO, CSIR, DHI, MHRD, NCERT as well as prominent Industries. The Institute promotes the filing of IPR, Technology Transfer and Commercialization in the interest of the Nation.

·   Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (IIE): The Institute promotes Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (IIE) ecosystem through Technology Business Incubation (TBI) cell. It facilitates student startups on campus to promote entrepreneurship.

·   Service to Society (S2S): The Institute provides services to the society by carrying out research in the area for the benefit of the society. In addition, the Institute runs Jagriti Club, which provides education and learning to the rural children in and around the campus. The students of the Institute under the mentorship of the faculty manage the entire affair.

ii. Consistency of curricula with academic vision and Industrial Needs:

The curriculum is uniquely designed to cater to the needs of Industrial growth and development keeping in mind the distinctive blend of theoretical and practical inputs in the curricula in tandem with Industrial needs. It is aligned with the aforementioned Vision of the Institute.

1.    The present curricula have minimum 15% credits through interdisciplinary contents which includes courses on

Besides 25% of the credits will be earned through the electives that can be offered by any discipline. 

2.    The students have opportunity to work in projects to inculcate innovativeness and hands on learning. From the first year the students have to carry out innovative project. During the 5th and 6th semester the students have to design and fabricate a product. The project has focus on interdisciplinary contents. In addition, in most of the courses, the projects are offered to the students. 

3.    Currently the UG curriculum for B.Tech. has an element of six months Project Based Internship at industries, R&D labs and reputed academic institutions for the students of the Institute. The B.Des. has an element of two semesters optional internship in the industry, where in students can pursue their B.Des. thesis. This provides wide spectrum exposure and perspective for the future employment to the students. At the same time, the prospective employers get a chance to test the knowledge and knowhow of the students to absorb them in their organization. 

4.    To enhance the personality of the students, every year the students will be enrolled in Professional Development Courses to be conducted from professionals from outside. 

5.    In addition to main degree in which a student is admitted the Institute offers minor degree program. Presently minor degree will be offered in following areas:

Rules For Change Branch

i)       A student may be allowed change of branch/ discipline on the basis of her/his academic performance, subject to strength constraints of the disciplines. Change of branch/ disciplineisaprivilegeandnotarightandisawardednormallytomeritorious students only. Reservation policy will be applicable as per GOI rules for vacant seats.

ii)     Application for the change of branch/ discipline should be made at the end of second semester of BTech programme to the Dean Academic.

iii)   Change of Branch/ discipline will be done against the vacant seats and will be based purely on merit basis (CPI of the student towards the end of the second semester).

iv)   The strength of the students in a discipline shall not exceed the larger of its existing and sanctioned strengths or fall below 60% of its sanctioned strength as a result of branch/ discipline change.

v)      Final approval for Change of Discipline will be given by Dean (Academic).

vi)   Top 5 students of the entire B.Tech. batch shall be eligible to change their branch of their choice above the sanctioned strength.

The Institute campus is being developed in a 250 acres land in the area of Mehgawan, Dumna Airport Road Jabalpur. The entire academic complex is connected through WiFi network.

This laboratory is well equipped with high-end fabrication facilities such as LPKF Rapid PCB Prototyping Machine (S103), LPKF Laser Prototyping Machine (U4) for high and low frequency circuit fabrication, Lithography setup, Microscope and etc.  For measurement and characterization there are several instruments such as Spectrum Analyzer (100KHz- 3GHz), Keysight Field Fox Spectrum Analyzer (100KHz-18GHz), Agilent ENA series Vector Network Analyzer (300KHz-20GHz), Keysight RF Signal Generator (20GHz), Anritsu RF Signal Generator (20GHz), Compact Anechoic Chamber Box, Radiation Meter, Microwave Test Benches and components, MIC Kits and accessories, Antennas (Horn Antenna, Dielectric Resonator Antenna, parabolic Disc, Slotted Antenna, Reconfigurable Antennas).

5.Nanoelectronics & VLSI Lab 

Presently this laboratory has Characterization equipment make Keithley, FPGA Kit and Verilog software. Simulation software for device and circuit design like Cadence and Synopsis

6.PG Computational Lab

This lab is equipped with advanced Electronic and Electromagnetic simulation and design tools such as   Lumerical FDTD Solutions, CST Microwave Studio, Ansys HFSS, ADS, High end workstations and 30 desktop computers. The lab is largely used by M. Tech, PhD and Project staffs to carry out their thesis, research and project works.  

7.Signal System & Control Lab

This laboratory is equipped with DSP Starter SPARTAN-3 kit (DSK), TMS 320C6713 DSK with CCS (Code Composer Studio), Image Daughter Kit with CCD Cameras, Bloom with DSP, Matrox Imaging Library, Matrox Morphis, Frame Graber Card, Color CCD Camera for online Processing etc. Interactive &Non-interactive conical Tank System, Four Tank System, Analysis of DC control motor system (PWM Method) kit, R-C firing circuit analysis kit, SCR characteristics.

The department laboratories are well equipped with powerful state-of-the-art Workstations, HPC Servers, Debian Linux servers, and network infrastructures such as the ISDN equipment, network distribution switches, firewall, and redundant wireless access controller to cater to the computing needs of the institute research and professional efforts, and to give exposure of the latest technological advances to the students in various fields of Computer Science and Engineering. 


Student Life at Institute

Students' Gymkhana

Students’ Gymkhana is constituted to evolve a disciplined self-governance for carrying out various extracurricular in-campus activities and to establish a responsible and accountable student body. Students’ Gymkhana is governed by Student Senate which is constituted in democratic way through elections among each discipline and batch of the students. Student Senate members are elected through direct ballot voting, every year in the first week of January. Every registered student of the Institute is by-default member of student gymkhana and would have right to vote. All members of the student gymkhana who have their CPI >= 6.5 will be eligible to make their candidature for the Student Senate. The Students’ Senate has 2-3 representatives from each class. There are around 40 members in the Student Senate. Various gymkhana clubs that are part of Cultural, Sports and Technical, work under Students gymkhana. Club coordinators and co-coordinators will be selected based on their skill and past performance in the Institute by the members of that club and duly ratified by the Student Senate. All members of the student gymkhana who have their CPI>= 6.0 are eligible to become mentors, coordinators, co-coordinators for various clubs.

Hostels:

IIITDM Jabalpur is a fully residential Institute. All the students are required to be reside in the campus. The hostel environment and available amenities play a very important role in the overall development of student during his/ her stay at the campus. Presently Institute having total six hostels VASISHTHA HOSTEL (Formerly Hall-I) "single seater", ARYABHATTA HOSTEL (Formerly Hall-3) “triple seater" and VIVEKANANDA HOSTEL (Formerly Hall-4) “triple seater" PANINI HOSTEL "single seater" MAA SARASWATI GIRLS HOSTEL “triple & single seater "single seater", and NAGARJUNA HOSTEL (For PG Married students). In addition, some flats of REWA residency are also available for the married students. The central mess facility is also available to the student which is managed by mess wardens and student mess committee. For the overall development of students are encouraged to participate in various activities such as sports, cultural, science and technology. Each hostel has a Hall Executive Committee (HEC), where students members are elected by hall residents and it is headed by the respective hall Warden.

Students Activities Center

Main objective of sports club is encourage all students at the Institute to participate in games and sports activities of their choice. The club facilitates both indoor and outdoor sports and has many active satellite clubs like Cricket club, Football club, Table tennis club, Badminton club, Chess club, Carrom club etc. All clubs are equipped with required resources and students regularly meet to play and practice.

Training students in physical activities to enable them to meet complex social challenges in sound, health and state of mind.

Mission:

To provide training to students through various physical activities to produce healthy engineers and scientists. Helping students in the overall development of personality through physical activity. In addition to educational activities for all-year UG / PG students with one credit point in each semester, the center emphasizes the promotion of sports and institute sports. The center is sincerely guiding both the

UG and PG students of the institute in various fields of sports and games and conducts various sports competitions throughout the year, be it Enthuse, Gusto or Inter Triple IT tournaments. Teams of the institute are selected for tournaments of various levels, the institute annual sports meet is also organized every year for students, staff, some recreational and provides relief from their grueling work schedule.

Sports facilities for Students:

Excellent facilities are available including well equipped multi gymnasium for boys, girls. It also includes the impressive Cricket ground, Footwall ground, Track & Field Ground and various  courts for Badminton, Lawn Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Squash Open Air Theater (OAT)  where all major sports and cultural activities are organized throughout the year. All the play fields are well equipped with all required facilities.

Mess/Canteen Facility

Institute has two numbers of centralized mess facilities with 500 capacities in the mess at a time for all students (UG/PG and PhD). Mess is run by the Institute Authority through private contractor under the guidance of the Mess Wardens. Vegetarian food is served in the mess. Everyday there is a nutritious menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner to the students with nominal rates. The Institute mess provides a mixture of North Indian and South Indian Dishes. Mess charges are collected on a semester basis in advance. Parents and guests are allowed to consume food on payment basis. The student mess committee is framed on semester basis to monitor the quantity, quality and rates of food provided by the mess contractor. In addition to mess, there is a separate canteen facilities available in the each hostels and other areas of campus.

The average placements in the last two year has increased by 193.40%. Highest package of the session 2022-23 is 82 LPA. SPORTS CLUBS:

Name of Club: Athletics Club

Athletics club keeps on winning medals at different times but for past few years the club is winning more number of medals. Now we are well equipped with almost all the facilities. The Institute has separate track & field ground. The athletic club won total 28 (6G+14S+8B) in inter IIIT Sports meet 2023 hosted by IIITDM Kanchipuram.

Name of Club: Badminton Club:

Badminton club at the institute was established under the Gymkhana after the inception of the institute along with other sports club. The club’s main objectives were to entertain the students who had interest in Badminton. The club has been active since then and has won and organized major events both in inter college categories such as Gusto, Enthuse and Inter IIIT. Some major achievements of the club include 4-time medalist in inter IIIT and positions at Gusto. The Badminton girl and boys teams both secured Gold medals in inter IIIT Sports meet 2023.

Name of Club: Basket Ball Club:

Basketball Club is one of the resounding clubs of IIITDMJ. Along with the players of the passed out batches, the students have won various tournaments of the institute and represented the institute at various Inter IIITs with flying colors. This club has the strongest female participation from the institute and had continuously won all the tournaments they had participated in, inspiring other girls to do the same and participate in sports too. Girls team secure Gold medal in inter IIIT Sports meet 2023.

Name of Club: Chess & Carom Club:

Performs actively in the Intra College fest of IIITDMJ (Enthuse), held every year. Organized the Chess Tournament in the Inter IIIT Sports Fest Gusto’20 which was held for the first time in IIITDMJ and performed exceptionally well, beating the all-time champions IIIT Kancheepuram in the first attempt, and thus securing gold for the college. Hosts online sessions open for all for consistent practice. Uplifting students to make them exceptional chess players who can compete anywhere. Teaching students to grow as a team and embark upon an amazing learning curve. Some ex-students have opted chess a career and now are professional coaches. In Chess silver medal was secured and in Carom Girls secured silver medal. 

Name of Club: Cricket Club

The Cricket club has grown from strength to strength. The members of the club welcome players of all abilities and thrive on creating an environment to ensure everyone develop as a player regardless of level. Cricket club is a very active club of our Institute .The club has maximized opportunities for everyone by arranging tours to different colleges. The students play tournament and practice matches by leather ball and all the required accessories like bats, stumps, gloves, pads etc. are provided by College time to time. Cricket team IIITDM Jabalpur was runner-up the in-inter IIIT Sports meet 2023. 

Name of Club : Football Club

The Football Club of IIITDMJ has always actively participated in various tournaments and also regularly organizes practice matches with some of the local teams in the city. IIITDMJ’s football club is the current Inter-IIIT Champion and also won the Inter-IIIT Football Tournament conducted by IIITM Gwalior in 2018. In the past few years the Football Club has won 3 time Gusto Champion and was also invited to IIT Bombay’s Annual Sports Fest in 2019. Football team boys team secured Bronze medal in inter IIIT Sports meet 2023.

Name of Club: Lawn Tennis Club

Tennis is a racket sport that can be played individually against a single opponent (singles) or between two teams of two players each (doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. Boys team secured Bronze and Girls team secured Gold medal IIIT Sports meet 2023.

Name of Club : Table Tennis Club

IIITDMJ table tennis club strive to portray table tennis as a sport with absolutely no prerequisites with a massive number of people picking up and excelling in this sport every year with the guidance of a dedicated coach and our team players. Headed by the Table Tennis Coordinator and driven by the Co- coordinator, Table Tennis Club promises fun to everyone who is a part of it. The club takes the game to a higher level.  Girls team secured Gold and Boys won Bronze medal in IIIT Sports meet 2023.

Name of Club : Volleyball Club

This is a very popular game amongst the students at IIITDM Jabalpur. The volleyball team of IIITDMJ has a good history.  In Inter IIIT’18 our students were Champions. And In Gusto, The students are winning continuously for the last three years. Girls team secured Silver medal in IIIT sports meet 2023.

Name of Club : Aavartan- The Dance Club

Aavartan-The Dance Club is one of the cultural clubs working under the Gymkhana association of PDPM IIITDM Jabalpur. Institute treats students as members of our family, that is bound together by the thread of 'Love For Dance'. It's a place where you come, you dance, and then you never want to leave again. Dance is about its fun, its frenzy, its excitement and Aavartan Dance Club is about all of the above things

Name of Club : Abhivayakti- The Arts & Craft Club

Abhivyakti, the arts, and crafts club is the heritage of the cultural society of our institute. It is a family which stands strongly behind the success of almost every event in our institute. The student set the stage for the breathtaking performances of our Cultural Fraternity amidst our hard work and perseverance. Our Students believe art is a medium to express oneself. Despite the laborious and tiring work, we continue with the same zest and dedication.

Name of Club : Jazbaat- The Dramatics Society Club

Jazbaat-The Dramatics Society is the biggest cultural club of the institute which provides a platform to the students to explore all the areas of dramatics like stage plays, street plays, mono-acts, mimes etc. We are active throughout the year giving an amazing experience both to the club members and the audience. Club sessions are organized regularly and new avenues of drama are explored. Apart from acting we also work on areas like scripting, music (instrumental and vocal), sound and light management, stage and prop management etc. which is an integral part of drama. We have something to offer to everybody and this is the reason our family keeps growing every year and we attain new heights. After a successful year 2016-17 we have not just won but also received blissful respect and love from not only institutions in the state, but the nation-wide. We have metamorphosed into a dramatics society which has not just excelled in street plays but also in stage acts. We’ve had a constant winning streak, be it at THOMSO, the annual cultural fest of IIT Roorkee or CARPE DIEM, the annual cultural fest of IIM Calcutta or our very own Inter IIIT Techno-Cultural Fest hosted by our Institute. This year we are planning to go even bigger and better. It’s going to be a year to remember.

Name of Club : Saaz- The Music Club

“Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent”

‘Saaz- The Music Club’, of PDPM IIITDM- Jabalpur (in a social-academic context) is a platform to establish a network among peers through the language of music. It aims to find and enhance the skills of students having a plethora of talents within them and giving them opportunities to showcase these talents and hone their existing skills as well. To hone their skills the club holds a variety of events and competitions. This provides a healthy environment for students to build up their confidence and work upon their hidden and untapped talents as well. It holds regular sessions for practice and building a natural coordination within members. The academic session 2018-19 was marked by organizing various events round the year, from classical music to event nights, in which the students actively participated.

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY CLUBS:

Name of Club: CAD and 3D Printing Club

Faculty Mentor: Dr. Prashant Kumar Jain                 

The club conducted several sessions in which we taught our juniors about the CAD modeling Software  Dassault Solidworks. The Institute made them familiar with the basis of the software and also made them aware of the Industrial importance of CAD. In addition, we also made them of 3D Printing and how to perform it.

Name of Club: Programming and Webix Club

Faculty Mentor: Dr. Atul Gupta

Coding blocks in collaboration with the training and Placement cell and the programming and Webix club. This club gave a brief insight about Git, Google Summer of Code, Different open source Organization, open source project Hierarchy. Our students got a good exposure to the open source community and will start preparing for competitive events like Google Summer code of code. We also explored the possibilities of future collaboration of Coding Blocks with The programming and Webix Their regional center at Jabalpur.

The Club holds unconventional way of learning that are tailored to innovative students, and which result in unique and memorable experiences. Community building amongst students and to impart members with learning and fun memories that will last a lifetime.

Name of Club: Automotive & Fabrication Club

Faculty Mentor: Prof. V.K. Gupta

The club focuses on an overall development of the member, ranging from improvement in the Character traits by a gain in the technical knowledge in the field of automotive.

Aerodynamics, unmanned aerial vehicles and basic fabrication techniques with a blend of improvement in the personality by participating in year round competitions held in the campus.

Name of Club: Aakrti- The Film Making & Photography

Faculty Mentor: Dr. Tripti Singh

Concepts such as portrait, macro and landscape photography were taught in the trip. An intra club photography contest was arranged for first years to showcase their skills.

Name of Club: Racing Club

IIITDMJ Racing is an elite team of our institute consisting of 25 hardworking and dedicated members who every year formulate and fabricate a F1 Prototype Racing Car from its very basics. The main motive of the club is to excel in field of design and engineering and bring the best out of the combination of both.

Name of Club: Electronics & Robotics Society

Faculty Mentor: Prof. Tanuja Sheorey

The Students were instructed about what material could be used to make their bots. They were taught the controlling of the bot using DPDT. Efforts was put to make every student understand the DPDT connections, Later the students were divided into five groups and each group provided with a pairs of DPDT, a pairs of wheel of motors, a caster wheel and chassis to implement what they were taught.

Electronics Club exists to provide exciting and unique opportunities for students, a practical understanding of electronic devices and gadgets and fun in learning concepts. The Club strives to bring students together for teamwork, and to unite them under the common objective of having fun in making projects.

Name of Club: Business and Management Club

Faculty Mentor: Dr. Shiv Dayal Patel

The event gave rise to new ideas and also cleared various misconceptions related to business and entrepreneurship. Further, real examples and cases like Google were taken and their management policies were put in perspective. This gave the members a greater insight into the business world and the participation in discussion gave them a sense of confidence. 

Name of Club: Astronomy & Physics Society Club

Faculty Mentor: Dr. Amit Viswakarma

To promote Amateur astronomy among the students that have joined the club so they have an interest in cosmos and if they want they can pursue their carrier in Astronomy/Astrophysics. To educate the members of the Astronomy Club about astronomy and the physics related to the heavenly bodies, and the law governing their movements and their formation and all the underlying principles. To Observe and discuss various astronomical phenomenon which are commonly observed through our telescope and by the high-end binoculars and to document the entire phenomenon that we have observed and discuss the law/theory behind them.

To inculcate scientific temperament for the field of astronomy and astrophysics, so as to traverse from amateur astronomy to professional astronomy.
