About the Institute

Indian Institute of Information Technology Kalyani was set up in 2014. It was among the twenty IIITs set up by the erstwhile Ministry of Human Resource Development (now, Ministry of Education), Government of India, under the Not-for-profit Public-Private Partnership (N-PPP) model. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Government of India, Government of West Bengal, and Industry Partners, viz; Coal India Limited, Rolta Foundation, and WEBEL for setting up of Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) at Kalyani using the above model. The stakes of the partners mentioned above were at a ratio of 50:35:15 respectively in 2014. The Institute has been declared an Institute of National Importance as per The Indian Institutes of Information Technology (Public-Private Partnership) Act, 2017.

The institute has been set up to produce best-in-class human resources in IT and to harness the multidimensional facets of IT in various domains. IIIT Kalyani strives to evolve into a world-class academic institution with the highest education and research facilities and produce industry-ready IT graduates to meet the industry demands. The institute continues to act as a catalyst in fostering an innovative ecosystem to ensure that new products, solutions, and innovations are created, taking advantage of the state's intellectual capital. IIIT Kalyani offers semester-oriented undergraduate, executive postgraduate and research programs to impart high-quality science and engineering education. Admission to the academic programs is synchronized with the academic year and occurs according to the procedure laid down by JoSAA and CSAB (for UG level).

IIIT Kalyani aims to excel in education and research in Information Technology and allied areas. The institute is committed to providing state-of-the-art technical education in the disciplines of Computer Science & Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering, catalyzing transmission of knowledge using the latest developments in pedagogy. While the construction work for the permanent campus (Phase -I) has been initiated, the institute is presently running from the campus at WEBEL IT Park, Kalyani, West Bengal.

Fee Structure 2024-25: The fee to be paid by the newly admitted students consists of two components, as noted below.

Academic Structure

The academic structure of IIIT Kalyani exhibits the diversity, comprehensiveness and depth befitting an institution of its age and stature. The programs/courses offered at the Institute have the flexibility to evolve and change in response to new requirements and serve the dual purpose of building a solid foundation of knowledge while enhancing confidence, creativity and innovation among the students. A unique attribute of IIIT Kalyani's academic structure is the autonomy enjoyed by the faculty in designing and structuring their curriculum and courses. While the individual departments form the basic academic units to deliver the respective courses, some courses are offered jointly by multiple academic units and are classified as interdisciplinary courses. A favorable student-teacher ratio ensures productive, personal contact between the student and the teacher. The credit-based academic programmes of the institute offer flexibility to the students to progress at their own pace.

Rules For Change Branch

The Senate approved the branch change option for B. Tech programs with the following conditions:

·  Branch change option to be made available to the students based on the result of the first semester.

·  At most 5% of the number of students registered in a program may be allowed to change branches, subject to vacancy in the destination branch.

·  Vacancy in a branch will be decided based upon the number of seats available considering the total sanctioned seats in the branch.

·  Selection will be made on descending order of CGPA among all students applied for branch change within a program.

Facilities

Software and Hardware Labs

The institute is equipped with software and hardware labs. There are three software and four hardware labs. The software labs house state-of-the-art educational software and are powered by Windows and Linux. The hardware labs are used for electronics, digital systems and embedded systems experiments. 

The institute has been selected under the 100 5G Labs Initiative by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the lab installation is under process. The objective of this lab is to build competencies and engagement in 5G and beyond technologies for students & startup communities.

Library

The institute has its own library with quality books counting to 4500. 


Hostel

The institute has accommodation for outstation students on payment basis, subject to availability, in rented apartments. Separate accommodation is provided for boys and girls. The hostels are well situated, accessible to other conveniences. The hostels are equipped with WiFi, security. The hostel is optional for the students.

Bus Service

Bus service is provided for students staying in the hostel from hostel to the institute and back.


Sports

Sports facilities are arranged in collaboration with Kalyani stadium, Kalyani.


Medical

Medical supports are given at local hospital at Kalyani. An Mou made with Rainbow specialty Hospital, Kalyani for the medical support to the needy stakeholders.

Financial Assistance

Scope of Financial Aid

  1. The Institute provides information to its students for obtaining scholarships under the schemes of Central and State Governments.
  2. Since State Government and Central Government agencies have a large number of schemes to provide scholarship to students, the admission office will help the students to apply for such opportunities.
  3. Tuition fee waiver scholarship in the form of full/half free studentship will be awarded strictly on merit cum means basis as per the notification of the W.B. Government.

Training & Placement

IIIT Kalyani had a successful placement session during 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22. Students got offers from both on-campus and online/off-campus selection processes. Some students qualified in GATE, CAT and opted to pursue higher studies in premier Indian Institutions.

Some of our recruiters in the first four batches were: Smartprix, Infosys, Cognizant, Nikulsan, TCS, MAQ Software, TCG Digital, SIGMOID etc.

Industry And Alumni Relations

The industry partners of IIIT Kalyani are Coal India Ltd., Rolta Foundation and WEBEL. The Students' Alumni Cell has been formed. The alumni meeting is scheduled in January 2025.

Recreational/Extra Curricular activities

Such activities on the part of the students are encouraged and supported by the Institute.

Location and Accessibility

Location

Kalyani is located in the Nadia district of West Bengal, within the Kolkata metropolitan area and is the administrative headquarter of Kalyani subdivision. Situated on the banks of the river Hooghly, the city is spread over a sprawling area of 29.14 square kilometre (11.25 square mile). Kalyani being a planned town, is characterized by underground sewerage system, paved roads forming rectangular grids, tree lined avenues and community parks.

The infrastructure in Kalyani has been adequately developed to give it a rich ambience for education and industrial growth with its roads, railways, river, power supply, underground sewerage system, solid waste management, fire brigade and police administration. Other than Indian Institute of Information Technology Kalyani, the city boasts to have two universities - Kalyani University and Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya. Institutes of national importance like IISER Kolkata and National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG) have also got their campuses in Kalyani. The All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) is also present in Kalyani and is functioning partially. In addition to the above, Kalyani is having three major hospitals and a medical college.

Air Connectivity
The nearest airport from Kalyani is Netaji Subhash Chanda Bose International Airport, Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. The road distance from Kalyani to Kolkata airport is around 45 km and the normal travel time is approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Rail Connectivity
There are around 80 trains running daily connecting Kalyani and Kolkata and the travel time is around 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Road Connectivity

Kalyani is well connected by road link and is easily accessible by private transport and bus service from different places. The important bus routes connecting Kalyani are : Kalyani – Kolkata,  Kalyani – Siliguri, Kalyani – Barakar (Bardhaman). Kalyani is linked with two very important National Highways via the Iswar Gupta Bridge, Delhi Road (NH 2) and Mumbai Road (NH 6).
