National Institute of Technology (formerly known as Regional Engineering College) Warangal, was established in 1959, the first in the chain of 31 NITs (formerly known as RECs) in the country. It is an Institute of National Importance and fully funded by Government of India. It has a self-contained residential campus located in a beautiful wooded land of about 248 acres.

The exquisite and intricate architecture of Ramappa, Thousand Pillar Temple, Bhadrakali Temple and Lake, and the Warangal Fort have been centers of attraction. Lovely gardens,  lakes and rocks in the vicinity are other places of interest for students.

The Institute is well known for its dedicated faculty, staff and the state-of-the art infrastructure conducive to a healthy academic environment. Ever since the inception, the Institute is constantly striving to achieve higher levels of technical excellence. Evolving a socially relevant and yet internationally acceptable curriculum, implementing innovative and effective teaching methodologies and focusing on the wholesome development of the students are our concerns. Many developmental activities were undertaken with the financial assistance from UNESCO, UK and the World Bank Assistance under Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP). The Institute hosts Teaching Learning Centre (TLC) with the funding from Government of India to train the faculty of Engineering Institutes in enhancing the teaching- learning process. The Institute also hosts E&ICT academy to train the faculty in the areas of electronics and computer science.

Location: The Institute is located in the historical city of Kakatiya dynasty, Warangal and is 10 km away from Warangal railway station and 2 km from Kazipet junction. The city is about 175 km from International airport, Hyderabad.

The Institute currently has thirteen academic departments and advanced research centers in various disciplines of Engineering, Sciences and Management, with nearly 100 laboratories organized in a unique pattern of functioning. Master of Technology (M.Tech):

Institute offers 28 M.Tech. programmes in eight engineering departments.  The students are admitted into these programs through centralized counseling process: CCMT for M.Tech, CCMN for M.Sc., and NIMCET for MCA. From the academic year 2021-2022, five self-financed seats in each of the 28 M.Tech programmes have been added apart from ten seats in each of the 28 M.Tech programmes leading to one year post-graduate diploma.

Master of Science

Admission to M.Sc programs in Mathematics, Chemistry and M.Sc.(Tech.)-Engineering Physics is based on the performance in Joint Admission Test for M.Sc.s (JAM) conducted by IITs through Centralized Counseling for M.Sc. / M.Sc (Tech) (CCMN). Master of Computer Applications.

Candidates graduated with any degree  (with mathematics or allied subjects at 10+2 and degree level) are eligible for admission to Master of Computer Applications (M.C.A.) and the admissions are based on the rank obtained in  NIMCET, a common entrance examination conducted for admission into MCA program offered at 9 NITs.

Master of Business Administration.

Admission to Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) is open to Engineering graduates only with a valid score in CAT/MAT followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

Doctor of Philosophy.

Ph.D admissions are done twice every year in July and December sessions for both full-time and part-time in all disciplines and also in self-finance mode. Fellowships are available for the candidates selected under full-time basis from any of the following schemes:

Central Facilities:

Central Library with state of the art facilities, Auditorium, Student Activity Centre, Computer Centre, Central Workshops, Indoor Games Complex, Stadium, Seminar Halls with required infrastructure, Health Centre with state of art of facilities, etc. The Institute is provided with Wi-Fi facility.

Hostels and Accommodation:

N.I.T., Warangal is a residential institute with nearly 7000 students (UG, PG and Ph.D) students. It is a residential campus with all the basic facilities for both the students and staff to live on the campus.  It has 16 residential blocks including one mega & one ultra-mega hostel for boys, three hostels for girls and one hostel for foreign students.  The hostels in the Institute can accommodate about 5500 students. It has five messes for boys, one mess exclusively for girls and one mega mess with present state of art facilities for boys.  It has nearly 300 teaching staff and 350 administrative and supporting staff. The place enjoys a good climate throughout the year except for the patches of hot summer during April-June.

Students Activities and Clubs:

Technozion and Spring Spree are the annual events conducted encouraging the students from all over India participating and showcasing their hidden talents in technical as well as cultural skills. CENTRAL LIBRARY

1 .INTRODUCTION

The Central Library supports the teaching and research programs of the Institute and provides facilities for general reading and disseminates information according to the requirement of the users. It is housed in a separate building with a plinth area of 4000 Sq. Mts.  It has around 1,87,014 books, back volumes, technical pamphlets, standards, CD-ROMs, Video Cassettes, e-books etc.  The total cost of the books is Rs. 10 Crores and Central Library subscribed 3236 e-journals. It also receives 4646 e-journals through E-Shodh Sindhu consortum. The services and operations in the Central Library are fully computerized.  The database of entire Library acquisitions was created using Koha software. Library at NIT Warangal is your window to the world of latest information in sciences, engineering, technology, School of Management . Being an integral part of academic and research work on the campus, it provides library and information services to support the teaching, learning, and research activities of the Institute by creating state-of-the-art facilities and offering innovative services. The library has a fast growing collection of books, journals, magazines both in print and digital format. Most of the in-house services of the library are fully computerized and provides access to many core subscribed online and open access resources.

Remote Access Service

Central Library, NITW introduced a new service called "Remote Access Services - MyLOFT (My Library On Fingertips)" for the benefit of Research Scholars and Faculty. MyLOFT is a mobile App. Through MyLOFT research scholars and faculty can access e-resources subscribed by the NITW anywhere and anytime. Hence, all the P.G. students, Ph.D. students and faculty are requested to utilize the facility to enhance the quality Engineering Education and Research. 

The Central Library of National Institute of Technology, Warangal supports the teaching and research programmes of the Institute and provides facilities for general reading and disseminates information according to the requirement of the users. 

It is housed in a separate building with a plinth area of 4000 Sq. mtrs. It has around 1,57,596 books, back volumes, technical pamphlets, standards, CD-ROMs, Video cassettes etc.

The total cost of the books is Rs.6.40 Crores and it receives 215 journals, (125 Indian and 90 foreign) at a cost of Rs.5.91 Lakhs. It also receives 2000 on-line journals through INDEST set-up by MHRD, Govt. of India

Faculty Information System

    The Central Library has implemented a new “Faculty Information System” under the Indian Research Information Network System (IRINS) to showcase the academic and research activities of the institute faculty members and provide an opportunity to create a scholarly research network.

    The NITW- Indian Research Information Network System (IRINS) will support the integration of the existing research management system such as HR system, course management, grant management system, institutional repository, Open and commercial citation databases, scholarly publishers, etc. This will be integrated with the academic identities such as ORCID ID, Scopus ID, Research ID, Microsoft Academic ID, and Google Scholar ID for ingesting the scholarly publication from various sources. Member ID Card

Each bonafide user will be provided with a Laminated Bar-coded Member ID Card for the duration of course. The Member ID Card is not transferable. Penalty for Loss of Member ID Card is Rs. 100/- Stack – Room There are three stack rooms in the ground floor of which two rooms are stacked with textbooks and the other with back volumes of journals.The books  and  back-dated  journals  are arranged  on  the shelves  subject-wise according  to  the dewey Decimal Classification Scheme.

2.The Library follows Open Access System Adequate seating arrangements with comfortable tables and chairs are provided in the stacks for the benefit of users. OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue)

The users can search the Bibliographic data viz. Author, Title, Subject, Classified No. etc., through OPAC of terminals installed at the Circulation Counter and various places in the Library and also can search in the campus LAN.

Book Banks

There are (4) Book – Banks in the library. Book – Bank for SC Students Book – Bank for ST Students Book – Bank for Needy Students The books will be issued once to students of those categories according to their eligibility at the beginning of the semester.

Reference Section

i) Reference Books The section  contains  reference books  such  as Encyclopaedias, Dictionaries, Directories, Handbooks,Bibliographies, Atlases, Data Books, M.Tech dissertations, Ph.D. theses etc. These are to be referred within the Library premises, but are not for lending. ii) Text Books A copy each of the prescribed textbooks and other recommended books are kept in the Text Book collection and these are to be referred on the Library premises only. A separate Reading Hall for Reference and Textbooks is provided with a seating capacity of 100 members.

Periodical Section

The Library receives about 215 journals, out of which 125 are Indian, 90 are received from foreign. All the current periodical are displayed on the periodical racks in the reading hall with a seating capacity of 100. Reprographic Service. There is a well – equipped Xerox facility in the Library. The users can avail of this facility on payment of nominal charges. IT facilities The Central Library  is  connected  to the CAMPUS LAN. The Library  server works  under windows  XP environment. Subsequently, the house keeping operations and services such as a acquisition entries, serial control, circulation  of books, using of Barcode system for issue and return of books have been computerised.The faculty members can access the bibliographic data from their respective departments through the campus LAN.

DIGITAL LIBRARY

The Library has campus LAN connectivity through the Computer Centre and is connected to Web Server. 50 systems providing network fcacility are installed for browsing. The MHRD GoI, New Delhi setup a consortia –  based  subscription  to electronic resources  for technical education system named as  INDEST (Indian Digital Library in Engineering, Science and Technology) and receiving about 2000 on-line journals viz. IEL (IEEE/IEE Electronic Library, ASME, ASCE, Applied Science and Technology Plus (ASTP), ACM Digital Library, Springer Verlag Link, Nature, J- Gate, Indian Standards 18,000 in e-form from 2003 onwards. The Library has installed a Hard Disk cashing solution (500 GB) in the Digital Library to store massive data of archival information.

3.Virtual Library

The Central Library is  also  established  Virtual Library  procuring  required  IT  infrastructure i.e. hard  disk cashing server and (50) Computer systems, Furniture etc. to access the archive off-line information through INDEST and e-books. Audio – Visual

There are TWO TVs and TWO VCRs and 350 video cassettes on different subjects.General Rules Library is a place for study and research. Strict silence is to be observed. A user has to show identity card whenever he / she enters the Library. All the personal belongings should be deposited at the counter. The user has to pay Rs. 10/- towards loss of token of personal belongings counter. Users are requested to allow frisking of person at the Library exit gate while leaving the Library. Personal books, printed materiaphotocopy material are not allowed inside the Library. Outsiders are not allowed into the Library. Smoking is strictly prohibited

BANK:

The institute has a bank situated beside the campus main gate, State Bank of India. It offers 2 ATM centers ; one in the campus near stadium and the other out side the campus near main gate.

ATM:

State Bank of Hyderabad has two ATMs - one located in the bank premises and the other near the Sports Stadium.

The Institute has a Post Office . The NITW campus comes under a separate postal zone and it is a postal delivery office.

The Institute Health Centre is full-fledged unit with provision for one full time Medical Officers, and Visiting Doctors who are assisted by supporting staff staff viz Staff Nurse,Pharmacist etc.

MUSIC CLUB

Purpose:

The Music club is a vibrant and elite society of musically gifted students who come together and create fascinating melodies. The purpose of the club is to showcase the musical talent of maximum number of students and it has upheld this tradition over the years.

The club encourages young musicians to interact with each other and gives them an appropriate jam pad. It enables us students to utilize our free time productively and do something what we as music enthusiasts are passionate about.

The club recognizes exceptional talent and promotes it in the right direction. The students in the executive body arrange practice sessions for intra as well as inter collegiate events. Workshops and semester long classes are held for those who are interested in learning music. Thus, if a student wants to excel in the field of music, the club does its bit to help achieve that goal.

LITERARY AND DEBATING CLUB

Purpose: 

The Literary and Debating Club is the largest student club in college with a 65-member strong body. It comprises three student groups that organize events in three languages- English, Hindi and Telugu- but work in tandem to benefit students in the realms of writing and speaking by conducting events that are both instructional and enjoyable.

THE QUIZ CLUB

Agenda :

The Quiz Club takes pride in being one of the most proactive and popular clubs among the student clubs of NIT Warangal.

Comprising twenty members, the club is dedicated to preparing and hosting quality quizzes for the student population on the campus.

Equipped with events ranging from quizzes such as The Joga Bonitos ( an year-long quiz tournament ) to the Annual General Quiz, the club offers a competing platform for the knowledge-hungry students. The gamut of activities include the Quiz Week ( an intra-mural event ) to quizzes covering specific themes, such as business, sports, literature, fine arts, entertainment, history and politics. The Quiz Club also hosts the Business Quiz held as part of the technical festival Technozion every year and quizzes held as part of the cultural festival Spring Spree. With a motivated team of members and an encouraging response from the students, the Quiz Club promises to cultivate a passion for quizzing among the participants.

PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB

PURPOSE:

Photography club of NITW provides a platform where talent meets creativity and gives rise to productivity. Students can engage in various activities that challenge their imaginative capabilities, assist in sharpening their photographic skills, and present an opportunity for students to learn from each other. The club is not only intended for those who have a strong base in the art, but also for those who want to develop one. The events range from theme-based photo competitions to short-film making contests, from teaching workshops to knowledge-based seminar and presentations from the most influential photographers and artists.

SCIENCE AND HOBBIES CLUB

PURPOSE:

Science is an imaginative adventure of the mind seeking truth in a world of mystery -Herman.

Science and hobbies is a combination that seems to be indifferent but is actually not. Science related hobbies provide an endless pursuit of knowledge in unlimited areas. Various branches of science can be made into fun hobbies. The Science and Hobbies Club is a committed body a desire to promote interest among the students on various science related activities and also to provide a platform to various hobby enthusiasts.

The motive of the club is to encourage the scientific temper in students along with cultivating various hobby related interests among them, to encourage the creativity in the students by giving them time to bring out their hobbies which could be ranging from numismatics to designing bots. Everyone has a creative corner within himself and we are here to bring out the best.

ELECTRONIC AMATEUR AND HAM CLUB

Purpose of the club:

Electronic Amateur and HAM club is established in the interest of electronic amateurs to pursue their hobby projects and interests and to work on the HAM Radio. The club has been working and organizing events to benefit student community like Robotics, transmitter and receiver design, HAM licensing, guest lectures on recent technologies, etc. The club promises to continue to strive for nourishing the creative and innovative ideas of young engineers.

NATURE CLUB

PURPOSE:

“The Greatest Threat to Nature is to believe that someone else will save it.”

_Realizing this_ Na_t_ure_ club NITW has always been committed in sensitizing the students on issues related to Environment.

The NATURE CLUB, NIT Warangal is a body of 58 students, religiously devoted for spreading awareness and shedding light on the various environmental issues which are resulting in major catastrophes all over the world creating chaos and destruction, lucidly demonstrating our recklessness and apathy for the environment and other life forms. To curb the practices done against the environment, the nature club has taken great strides in reaching out to the students in the college by conducting numerous activities which emphasized on the urgent need in taking measures to protect our mother nature and make our way of living as “eco-friendly” as possible.

CENTER FOR VALUE EDUCATION

PURPOSE OF CENTER FOR VALUE EDUCATION:

“Education without values is a dangerous instrument” so the saying goes. In the present day context where a person tends to adopt a fast busy life without any emphasis for lifestyle management, people may easily fall prey to unethical and immoral practices. This affects not only him but influences negatively people around him as well.

Our former president Abdul Kalam says rightly that educational institutes while imparting knowledge of subjects should also create a favorable environment for the maturing of a real personality of a student-which becomes possible by inspiring him to lead a life based on values and ethics. He will then become capable of taking informed decisions for choosing a path which is in harmony with divine virtues like peace, tolerance etc.

Centre for Value Education shares the philosophy of Ministry of Human Resource Development of India with the objective of inculcating moral values such as love, truth, righteousness, peace, nonviolence and patriotism among students. The main motive of this centre is to produce engineers and technologists with a good character and humane. The center arranges lectures by eminent personalities, debates, discussions and speeches based on the topics related to the centre. The club also ensures that it organizes social activities to inculcate the spirit of social service.

It is endowed with this vision that the Centre for value education club of NIT-W organizes events and competitions for the students. As part of this endeavor, we came out with a monthly newsletter Sanskaar which comprises of interesting articles and inspiring essays written or compiled by the students which help in blossoming of his/her personality. Quizzes and competitions relating to morality, values, culture and heritage are held to ignite the zeal in a student to achieve his/her goal no matter what the obstacles.  The Director, Dean (Students Affairs), and the Faculty Adviser for the club were the distinguished guests who attended and spoke in the inaugural event of our club. We also had a presentation for increasing the awareness of the first years about our college. Issues relating to the academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities were discussed. Students thus had an overview of the different facets of their four year stay here such as facilities available, fests etc. and we hope that they have gained a clear and fresh perspective of their mission. We hope to carry forward these activities all the yearlong with the co-operation of the students.

About Innovation and Entrepreneurship Club:

Success in this dynamic global environment requires an enlightened cadre of engineers, scientists and managers who have depth in their specific disciplines, as well as a keen understanding of how their work meets the needs of society, business, industry and government. This will be the new generation of innovators and entrepreneurs who become tomorrow’s faculty and leaders in business, industry and government.

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Club of NIT Warangal provides an environment that will foster innovation & entrepreneurship among the students. Our main objective is to create the spark of innovation in the students’ mind so that he or she can see the existing problems that need to be solved. We also propagate the value of entrepreneurship. Quizzes, Guest lectures and fun events are also part of our yearly event schedule.

The vision of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Club (IEC) is to provide the students with a consolidated knowledge base in the field of launching high-technology enterprises and the mission of the club is to encourage students to think creatively for developing innovative products for commercial exploitation by means of brainstorming sessions, and to provide the necessary knowledge in business plan development, implementation and finance.

THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS ( INDIA ) – STUDENT CHAPTER NITW

Purpose:

“The Institution of Engineers (INDIA)”, NIT Warangal is a student run chapter of the country's vast professional forum guided by the faculty adviser Dr.N.Selvaraj with Jagadeep Kavarapally as the General Secretary. This chapter strives in inculcating, among the technologists, a growing commitment to the social objectives of the profession and fosters national and international cooperation in engineering and technology. In our college, the club conducts events like the treasure hunts, quizzes, etc., to encourage active participation from the students and make them familiar with the latest technological developments and provide access to the R&D activities. We conduct seminars and expert talks on various technical issues by successful engineers and technologists from all over the country and abroad. As the club in NITW, we conduct events like quiz, mock GATE test, etc., which have seen huge response in the previous academic year. Now, we are planning to come up with good events which would, definitely, prove to be best platform for engineering students to realize their visions with a large pool of technical and research specialists on their side.

YOUTH RED CROSS SOCIETY NITW CHAPTER

Purpose:

Youth Red Cross Society NIT Warangal chapter, the first of its kind in the institute, has been established during the academic year 2010-11 with the twin objective of evoking awareness towards social responsibilities among the youth and involving the energetic section of the society in the voluntary and responsible programs of INDIAN RED CROSS SOCIETY.

Youth represent a substantial part of the membership of Red Cross for its humanitarian commitment. Young volunteers can make a significant contribution to meeting the needs of the most vulnerable people within their local communities through Red Cross youth programme. This has been designed to involve young people as much as possible in the movement and its activities not only as workers and also as beneficiaries, but as partners in management. The programme focuses on the following areas:

_Promote life and health through training and education on safety, primary health care and healthy living_Encourage community service through training and education_Disseminate the seven fundamental principles of Red Cross and Red Crescent movement through activities that encourage the Red Cross ideals_Promote international friendship with activities that cultivate a humanitarian spirit_Technical support in the development of youth programmes, fund-raising, identification of material and human resources_The youth unit aims to have young people recognized by Societies leadership as equal partners who address the needs of the most vulnerable.
