About the Institute

With rapid advancements in Science and Technology, the contemporary times demand immense contribution from young skilful minds, with a vision and aim to contribute towards efficient yet sustainable development. National Institute of Technology Uttarakhand- one of the thirty-one Institutes of National Importance in the country, abides by the afore-mentioned principle by constantly providing an encouraging environment for education and training of technical professionals as well as grooming the skills of the students through impeccable learning courses.

Established in 2009 under the Act of Parliament by the Ministry of Education (Shiksha Mantralaya), NITUK is the Technical Education Hub in the Green and Clean lap of the Himalayas, precisely located in the Land of the Gods (known as Dev Bhoomi), the state of Uttarakhand. With a peaceful and serene atmosphere that environs the institute, the students are motivated to achieve academic and technical excellence in the streams of their choice. It is noteworthy that NITUK is located on the banks of Alaknanda River in Srinagar (Garhwal), about 100 KM ahead of Haridwar and Rishikesh, two of the holiest pilgrimages in Sanatan Dharma and also known as the gateways to the “Chhota Char Dham”. The impeccable geographical location boosts leaning and training as Haridwar, Rishikesh, and the mountains beyond have been the choice of Rishis and Munis since time immemorial and are the originators of rich old spiritual and intellectual establishment of glorious India [Capital of ancient Indian wisdom and university (known as Gurukuls)]. The Institute admits students to B. Tech. in Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering through JEE Mains (formerly known as AIEEE) and to M. Tech. in all Engineering programmes through GATE, both the examinations conducted all over India by NTA. The Institute also offers Ph. D. in the streams of Engineering, Sciences, and Humanities. The peaceful, green and clean environment endows natural advantage to the institution and is greatly reflected in its excellent teaching- learning ambience, young and dedicated faculty, and significant contribution to research work and commitment to the community.

NITUK has initiated the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 for the benefit of the students, community and the nation as a whole. We are dedicated to working on interdisciplinary research and development initiatives in emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Renewable Energy, Electric vehicles, etc. Contributing to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s initiatives on “Atmanirbhar Bharat”, we focus on the initiatives of the Career-related Counselling from time to time for the students shortly in order to help them emerge not only as great technocrats, but also job creators for others in the country and overseas. The institute envisions- To provide global impetus to education and innovation for the sustainable development of industry and society.

उद्योग और समाज के सतत विकास के लिए शिक्षा और नवाचार को वैश्विक महत्व प्रदान करना”

For an impactful achievement of the afore-mentioned aim, we at NITUK are focussing upon innovation, research, latest technologies, industry outset, and six monthly/one year industry internships. Several MOUs have been signed with top-notch Academic Institutions/universities in India and Abroad, Government Research organizations, and Industries for the research collaborations. NITUK faculty and researchers are leading in cutting-edge research. They have acquired sponsored research projects from research funding agencies such as DST, MHRD, MeitY, DeitY, UCOST, UGC-DAE CSR, etc. With an increase in funding, research publications, graduate student productivity, and industry outreach activities, we are marching ahead to enhance our research productivity. We are delighted to express that in the current placement session, about 49% students have already been placed in very reputed and core companies. Since its inception, this Institute has grown rapidly and tremendously. It has established itself as one of the best technical educational institutes across the country with 131st  rank in NIRF India ranking 2022 and  in band 101-150 ranking in NIRF India ranking 2023 in the Engineering Category among almost 12,000 Institutions in the country, despite its remote geographical location and limited resources available in the mountainous region.

Furthermore, NITUK is recognized in the band "PROMISING" under the category "Institute of National Importance & Central Universities/CFTs (Technical)" in the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievement (ARIIA) 2021. Institute has its own rafts, and our students are accustomed to enjoying rafting on the rivers that ornament the beauty of the region. During winters, there are many attractive and adventure spot around the Institute, including Tehri Dam, Dhanaulti, Auli, Mussoorie, Chopta, and Khirshu for snowfall and tracking. Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, the four holiest pilgrimages sites (known as Char Dham Yatra), are located about 150 KM ahead of the Institute. You are welcome to become our partners/stockholders in progress and undertake this exciting journey in the future.

We welcome you to NITUK, to be a part of it and make it one of the best academic institutions located in the country.
