About the Institute

 

The National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra is a premier Institution of academic and research in the field of engineering and technology.  The Institution was established in 1963 as erstwhile Regional Engineering College, Kurukshetra as a joint enterprise between the Government of Haryana and Central Government.  Today the Institute has its own place of high recruit in the national and international academic as an arena and has become institution of National Importance by the Act (NIT Act, 2007) of parliament.  The Institution is fully funded by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, New Delhi.

The Academic Programs span over a wide range of areas in Engineering, Applied Sciences, Humanities, Management and Computer Applications.  Presently, the Institute conducts 14 B.Tech., 1 B.Arch. & Planning, 5 Dual Degree (BTech.+M.Tech.), 17 M.Tech., 3 M.Sc.,  MBA , MCA (Regular and Self-Financed) and Ph.D. programs in all the above disciplines.  At present 5500 students are registered under in these programs.  The placement record of the Institute has been commendable despite recession all across the globe.  Leading national and multi-national companies visit to recruit many students from the Institute.  To foster all round development of the students, adequate emphasis is given on many extracurricular activities like sports, cultural, technical and industrial visits.

Since its inception as REC, this institution has been very effectively imparting higher education and conducting research activities as well as manpower training programs in the frontier emerging areas of technical education and in the process has emerged as a premier institution of the country.  Over six decades of its existence, the Institution has grown vastly, both in terms of infrastructure and academic programs; and today NIT Kurukshetra has its own reputation for excellence in imparting high quality technical education, research, sponsored R&D programs, and consultancy.  The spirit of knowledge generation and dissemination is strongly embodied in the tradition, work culture and academic ambience of NIT Kurukshetra.  The Institute is established in the land of ‘Gita’ where ‘Lord Krishna’ delivered his first message to spread the knowledge in the entire world and this spirit is integral part of teaching learning at our Institution.

 NIT Kurukshetra is following its vision to be a role model in technical education and research responsive to global challenges and its primary objective is to advance technical education by emphasizing both theoretical study and practical applications. Incorporating additional alternatives and interdisciplinary electives and skill development via internships and partnerships with industry to achieve the mission objectives to impart quality education, developing innovative professional and entrepreneurs while undertaking research that generates cutting edge technologies and futuristic knowledge linking it with socio economic needs.

The faculty and alumni of the Institute have brought knowledge to the Institute through their outstanding professional achievements, professional recognitions and awards.  However, the Institution is tirelessly pursuing teaching, learning and training programs in collaboration with R&D organizations and industries for skill development of students, faculty and non-faculty staff by way of continuous learning.

The Institute has initiated steps for strengthening R&D collaborations with DRDO, DST and reputed industries along with strong linkages with renowned academic institutions of the country and abroad.  It has been a constant endeavor of the policy makers and administration of the Institute to accommodate the emerging needs of skilled professionals in industry through continuous up-dation and modification of teaching and training programs.  The Institute has prepared a prospective plan for future development of the Institute.

Kurukshetra is a railway junction on Delhi-Karnal-Ambala section of Northern Railway.  It is about 160 Km from Delhi and 100 Km from Chandigarh.  The Institute campus is about 10 Km from Pipli, a well known road junction on NH-I.
