Infrastructure Facilities
The Institute has a well equipped library, a computer centre, lecture hall complexes, various laboratories in different departments, workshops, and hostels for accommodating about 6000 students, health care centre, and adequate facilities for sports, games and co-curricular activities. The institute has a guest house with A/C and non A/C rooms, for the guests of the institute including alumni and parents of the students. To provide service to the residents, the campus also accommodates a branch of State Bank of India, Canara Bank, Post Office, Canteens & Co-operative Store.
Campus Networking Centre
The NITC Campus Networking Centre(CNC) is the central facility providing internet, intranet, hardware and software support to the entire staffs and students community of NITC Campus. CNC manages the internet connectivity(both wired and wireless). For the network services, center has the high end computational servers on which accounts are given to students, staff and faculty of the departments. National Institute of Technology Calicut has an extensive fiber optic network over the whole campus. The present campus network basically comprises of more than 30 KMs of Fiber Optic cable backbone with 80+ routed internal networks managed by Unified Threat Management System. Presently the network is served by 12 Gbps (1Gbps internet leased line from NKN,1Gbps internet leased line from BSNL and 10 Gbps internet leased lines from BSNL). Hardware maintenance unit of CNC provides quality service support to minimize system downtime in the entire campus. The services include installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of computer and peripheral devices, operating system and software installation.
Education Technology and Library
Education Technology & Library (ETL) consist of Central Library and Digital Library
The central Library of NIT Calicut is one of the best technical libraries in South India. It has a very good collection of more than one lakh technical books. The services and other day-to-day activities of the Central Library are fully automated to provide better access to its users. The bibliographic information of its entire collection has been converted into machine-readable form and is accessible from throughout the campus through OPAC. The Library subscribes International Journals and Indian Journals in print form.
The Digital Library, 'NALANDA' provides online access to more than 6000 electronic journals in various Engineering and Science disciplines. NALANDA hosts many electronics data bases in its servers. As a member of the INDEST-AICTE Consortium under Ministry of Human Resource Development, GOI, NALANDA promotes the use of e-journals and e-books for advanced research and learning in the Engineering and science Education. Major online resources are journal / magazine / conference records / standards of IEE, IEEE, Springer, ASME, ASCE, and ACM Digital Library core packages. Online access to study materials is available through a local copy of NPTEL. Databases like CMIE, ACE Analyzer are available to the NITC community. Library also subscribes to plagiarism checker - Turnitin. The digital library is developing the NITC resources by collecting and indexing the students’ project reports / theses through ETD run with DSpace, which also houses the national and international standards. Eduserver - running in the digital library - hosts the moodle platform for online course management.
Digital Library reading room housing about 50 terminals provides exclusive access to the online resources. All resources are available throughout the campus from
http://www.library.nitc.ac.in.
The Central Library also houses a Reprographic section which consists of a Graphic Studio, Offset press and a Binding Section. These sections cater to the related needs of the Institute.
Central Computer Centre
Central Computer Centre (CCC) is the central facility in NIT Calicut which caters for the computing requirements of the whole community of this institution. The Centre has state of the art infrastructure with four fully operational terminals spanning over three floors of the building. Decision Support System (DSS) of the institute also operate from the Centre. The Centre has 190+ client machines and has a capacity to include 400+ machines. Client systems are of both desktop and work station genre. Desktops contain DELL OPTIPLEX 755 and 7010 series which are of adequate performance and workstations contain HP XW4550 and DELL Precision series machines, which are capable of more than handling high end production and design level applications. CCC hosts some of the high end servers and parallel processing cluster machine. Servers include DELL PowerEdge T620 which has a dual Hexa-core processor and HP ProLiant Rack server, which has a dual Quad-core processor.
High performance cluster machine which has a computational capability of 1.6 Teraflops is named P.U.R.N.A (Parallel Universal Remote Numerical Analyzer) and is accessible along the length and breadth of NITC Campus. The centre is currently engaged in setting up a high class supercomputing facility which has a compute capability of nearly 18 Teraflops for satisfying high performance computing use of the research students and faculty in the institute. Some of the computational softwares and packages for the other departments run from the servers maintained in the CCC, as well. Centre is fully air-conditioned and has UPS power backup for the whole setup.
The Centre possesses a bundle of software, packages and OS for diversified applications. Some of the numerous applications which support academic and creative needs of the student are ANSYS, MATLAB, and Adobe Suite etc. Computers in the CCC are loaded with Windows and Linux operating systems for convenience and centralized authentication is provided for both. The Centre work 16 hours a day (7 am-12 am) 7 days a week except national holidays, unless instructed otherwise.
Banking and Postal Facility
A fully computerized branch of the State Bank of India (SBI) with networked ATMs and Canara Bank, both with internet core banking facilities, are available on campus. The banks also extend financial support in the form of loans to meet the educational expenses of students.
A Post and Telegraph Office with value added facilities like Speed Post, India Telephone Cards (ITC) etc. functions within the campus.
Mobile Communication Services
Service providers like BSNL, Airtel, Idea, Jio etc. provide mobile phone coverage in the campus.
Engineering Unit
The construction, renovation and maintenance of buildings, compound wall, laying of roads, water supply, allotment of residence, campus electricity distribution and maintenance etc. are carried out by the Engineering Unit.
